Are you a boy who is going to be in first, second, third, fourth or fifth grade?
Do you enjoy outdoor activities like hiking or camping? Would you like to try these things out?
Do you like to earn awards?
If you said "Yes!" then Cub Scouting is for you!
If you are in First Grade, you will start out as a Tiger Cub. Tiger Cubs do many exciting things! You will go on Go-See-it trips to learn about local sites and people. Tiger Cubs are a great beginning for your Scouting Career! The last thing you do as a Tiger is earn your Bobcat Pin and Badge and become a Cub Scout.
In the Second Grade you will be a Wolf Cub. Wolfs have to complete several requirements to get their Wolf Badge. Then you can go on to earn Gold and Silver Arrow Points. The WolfTrail helps you become more aware of yourself and the world around you.
In the Third Grade you will be a Bear Cub. Bears also complete requirements to get their Bear Badge. They concentrate on fours categories: God, Country, Family and Self. Once you get your Bear Badge you can earn more Arrow Points.
In the Fourth and Fifth Grades you are no longer a Cub Scout, you are now a Webelos Scout. As a Webelos Scout you are learning the skills you will use when you become a Boy Scout. Every achievement earns you a Pin which you can wear on your Webelos Colors or on your hat. As you earn Pins you also earn your Compass, Compass Points, your Webelos Badge and finally the Arrow of Light which is the highest award you can earn before Boy Scouts.
If you want to learn more about what you have to do to earn your ranks, check out the Boy Scout Requirements Library. Scroll down to see the Cub Scout stuff!
Do you have to start as a Tiger? No! You can join up at any time, but you must always earn your Bobcat before you can earn any other rank. Unfortunately, if you join "later" you cannot go back and earn past ranks.
During the year you and your Den will do lots of neat things together. Every year we have our Pinewood Derby where you build and race a model car. We also have a Raingutter Regatta where you will build a sail boat and race it by using your lung power! This year we will do our first Space Derby, you will race your own space craft! Our Dens visit great places like museums, planetariums, and we even go see a Baseball Game or two! We also have campfires, cookouts, hikes and, camp-outs.
The best part about joining Scouts is that you'll have life-long friends all over the world. The fun doesn't stop with Cub Scouts! When you go to the Sixth Grade you can become a Boy Scout. There you will learn all about the out doors, camping, survival, citizenship and build self confidence that stays with you for a life time. Once you've earned your Eagle Scout Rank, it's on to Venturing and Learning for Life. Scouting goes on and on for as long as you want to be in Scouting.
If you want to join up, have your Parents contact the Cubmaster. We'll get you started right away!
